Let's End Childhood Hunger

Hi Everyone!

Hope you're having a great Wednesday. I want to share a little bit today that admittedly before, I didn't know much about – childhood hunger.

Sure, i've volunteered quite a bit in San Francisco at places like the SF/Marin Foodbank and SPCA, but not too much else. I knew there were hungry people in San Francisco every day, but the thought of children being hungry too really never crossed my mind.

Oh, I was very wrong. Let me throw a little statistic at you right now.

One in five children in this country struggles with hunger, including more than 27% of kids in California.

Let that sink in, everyone. It's insane. Unacceptable, sad, and heartbreaking. I feel so very fortunate to be able to eat healthy, but what about that 27% in my state?

The good news is that this is a solvable problem. The No Kid Hungry campaign is ending childhood hunger in this nation by ensuring all children get the healthy food they need, every day by connecting them to nutrition programs like school breakfast and summer meals and by teaching families how to cook healthy, affordable meals at home.

In California specifically, No Kid Hungry is focused on expanding access to school breakfast and afterschool meals. That's where Taste of the Nation comes in.

Taste of the Nation San Francisco is a fundraising event that focuses on tasting from the city's chefs, sommeliers and mixologists united for a cause: making sure all children in this country get the healthy food they need. Some of this year's supporters include Souvla (amazing Greek food!), Foreign Cinema, and Delfina just to name a few favorites.

Last year, Taste of the Nation San Francisco raised over $220,000, which helps connect children in need with up to 2.2 million meals. One hundred percent of ticket proceeds from Taste of the Nation to benefit No Kid Hungry.

Every $1 raised from the taste of the nation event provides the equivalent of 10 meals to kids in the Bay Area and all over the US. So join me on March 26th for Taste of the Nation and let's help fight childhood hunger.
